More Amazon locker tie-ups in the U.K.

Amazon customers will soon be able to pick up orders at their local Morrisons across the U.K. with the introduction of Amazon lockers at the supermarket this year.

In a deal with the e-commerce giant, Morrisons announced plans to install hundreds of Amazon lockers in its supermarkets this year. The new deal follows a major partnership between Morrisons and Amazon agreed earlier this year, adding Morrisons' food range to Amazon's Pantry, Fresh and Prime Now grocery delivery services.

John Tagawa, Amazon’s Vice President of UK Operations, said, “Morrisons supermarkets are ideal locations for Amazon Lockers which allow people to pick up their parcels while on the move.”

Secured locker access across Europe
Customers using the Morrisons based Amazon Lockers will receive an email or text with a unique code. They enter the code or scan the barcode from the email to retrieve their product at the locker.

Amazon intends to open a broad parcel locker network across Europe. It’s currently testing Amazon lockers at Shell stations across Germany and has already ramped up to more than 1,000 lockers across the U.K. in locations ranging from petrol forecourts, convenience stores and shopping centers to universities, train stations, banks and airports.

Morrison said it will pick strategically placed locations for the lockers nationwide. Chief financial officer at Morrisons Trevor Strain said he thought the option to collect items "from one of our hundreds of conveniently located supermarkets will be attractive".
