Vente-privee.com wants to enter the United States
The French website vente-privee.com, a leader in online clearance sales, will be unveiling a project to establish itself in the United States “in partnership with a company of a global scope,” according to an invitation sent to the press on Monday. According to rumors, Vente-privee.com had reached an agreement with American Express. However, Vente-privee.com denies any such partnership.
In 2010, Vente-privee.com’s turnover before taxes increased 19.1%, up to 810 million Euros. The group, with 20% of capital belonging to Summit Partners, an American corporation, has 12.6 million users registered for its sales events and 4.5 million users were active last year. The company, which had successfully implemented its business model in France, took Germany by surprise in 2006. Nowadays, it is present in Spain, Italy, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the Benelux countries.
Amazon, an American company, which at one point wanted to acquire vente-privee.com, decided to buy BuyVIP, a Spanish site, last October.
Another French website for private sales, Brandalley, attracted Newscorp, an Anglo-Saxon group, to its round table.
